Western ghats, or Sahyadri as we all call it as, is a treasure trove of spectacular landscapes, biodiversity, flora, fauna, some amazing geological wonders and manmade monuments. With the increasing pressure from human encroachment, all these elements are under stress and in turn are under depletion. Western ghats should be left untouched by human beings, to protect their future generations from getting short of resources, such as water, energy and clean air. The important elements of western ghats, which need protection are highlighted in the new version of Photo journal , Me Sahyadri Magazine. The various issues of journal have a brief of inspiring subjects such as birds, mammals, forts, ancient caves, snakes and the ambiance.

Gadad is a small village in the Bhama river valley, in Pune district. The village is located at the base of a Tasubai hill range. The village has a very beautiful sacred grove at the base of the hill. There is a Bhairavnath temple in the village. Around the temple there are several hero stones, in memory of the historical warriors. The hill behind the temple has steep precipitous cliff. The horizontal geological fault at the higher elevation on this precipitous cliff, there are few manmade caves and water cisterns. There are traces that the cave complex was fortified in the past with ground markings of the controlled fort entrance. The main cave at the top is very crude without much ornamentation. There are several markings which suggest that the cave was having a front enclosure with door. The most astonishing aspect of this cave complex is the existence of large sized water cisterns. The size of water cisterns indicate that the cave complex at the top of a very difficult precipitous cliff was established to differentiate the occupants of the cave from the rest of the world below. The use of the caves to house the livestock is ruled out as the precipitous cliff cannot be climbed by the livestock. There are about 200 narrow steps along precipitous cliff. The climb is difficult and requires special efforts and climbing knowledge and is not suitable for amateur trekkers. There is a small temple of Durgeshwar, Bhairavnath at the top. There is also a tiger sculpture on one of the stones which house the small temple.
